Berford Street Reconstruction - Phase II
In 2019, the Town of South Bruce Peninsula retained R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited to provide detailed engineering design, project management, and construction administration services for the future replacement of watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and the required road reconstruction of several roads in the Wiarton settlement area.
Berford Street Reconstruction - Phase I
Phase I of the Berford Street reconstruction - Division Street south to George Street - was completed between 2019 and 2023. This phase included the design and reconstruction of underground infrastructure, and the roadway, forming a key first step in overall improvements.
Current Project Phase
Funding has been allocated in the Town's 2025 and 2026 Capital Budgets for the detailed design, tendering and construction of Berford Street, from George Street to Elm Street.
Planned improvements include:
- Replacement of underground watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer infrastructure
- Full road reconstruction, including new pavement
- Installation of new sidewalks to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility
- Upgraded streetlighting, as well as the traffic signal system at the Frank Street intersection
Funding
This project is supported in part through the Ontario Connecting Links program, which provides provincial funding for municipal roadway corridors that connect provincial highways through communities.

The closure is expected to remain in place until at least Labour Day.The road will be open to local traffic and emergency vehicles only. Local traffic is for residents only. Business access will remain available via Frank Street.
