Ontario's Blue Box Transition
The Government of Ontario has introduced legislation that changes how Blue Box materials are collected and managed across the province.
As part of this shift, all municipalities - including ours - will transition to a new Blue Box collection model by the end of December 2025. This change is in accordance with the Blue Box Regulation under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, which supports Ontario's broader vision for a waste-free future and a circular economy.
It's important to note that waste collection from industrial, commercial, and institutional (IC & I) properties has never been a mandated responsibility for municipalities in Ontario. However, many municipalities have historically provided this service as a value-added offering to support their local business communities.
Starting January 1, 2026, the provincially legislated Blue Box regulation will no longer permit curbside collection services for Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional properties. These properties will be responsible for arranging their own recycling collection services.
An amendment has been proposed to allow for the possibility of providing collection services to certain IC & I properties; however, this remains uncertain at this time. The Town understands the potential inconvenience this may cause and is actively investigating options to support the business community.

We invite you to share your thoughts as an organization that will be affected by these upcoming changes. Your feedback will help us better understand the potential impacts on your operations and explore ways the Town may be able to support you during the transition. Please take a few moments to complete the survey below.
Note: If you do not currently receive curbside Blue Box collection because you have a contractor providing these services, the transition should not have an effect on you. You should confirm with your contractor that they will be able to continue this service following the transition on January 1, 2026.
